Here’s a SSAT sample question to help you practice the type of percent problem you may find on the quantitative section of the Upper Level SSAT.

What are Percentages?percent

Percent (%) means hundredths or number out of 100, so that 40/100 = 40 percent, and 3 is 75 percent of 4 (because 3/4 = 75/100 = 75 percent).

SSAT Sample Question for Percentage Problems

Lucy takes five math tests and scores an average of 71%. The teacher decides to delete one of her tests, making her new average 76%. What was Lucy’s grade on the deleted test?

(A) 25%

(B) 39%

(C) 51%

(D) 54%

(E) 60%

Answer Key:

(C) 51%

[( 5 × 71) – x]/4 = 76

355 − x = 304
